Karen MacDonald - DDS

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia; Karen grew up in Antigonish before moving to New Glasgow in High School. Karen won many academic awards at New Glasgow High School, studied a single year in the Science program at Dalhousie before transferring to the Dalhousie's Pharmacy program. Karen continued her academic excellence and was awarded several academic awards when she was awarded her BSc. in Pharmacy in 1985.

Karen worked for one year as a full time pharmacist in Halifax and then 4 years on a part time basis as she supported herself through dental school also at Dalhousie.

Karen graduated from the Dalhousie University School of Dentistry and immediately moved to Ottawa where she has practiced since May 1990.

Karen has a family orientated general dental practice and is always welcoming new patients as she shares the excitement of the modern facilities at Preston Dental Centre.

Karen is married, has a daughter and enjoys time with her family and friends in Ottawa and Fort Myers, on the ski hill and practicing her considerable culinary skills.

Dr. Jennifer Bayne - DDS

Dr. Bayne is dedicated to serving her patients and her community through practice of state-of-the-art dental care. With almost ten years of experience in the Edmonton area, Dr. Bayne is thrilled to bring her enthusiasm and expertise to the Preston Dental Centre team.

Born in rural Manitoba, Dr. Bayne received her degree in biology from the University of Winnipeg ('94). She then attended the University of Alberta ('00) where she received numerous clinical and academic awards and was placed Inaugural Dean's Honour list of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

Dr. Bayne is an expert in cosmetic, implant and restorative dentistry. She is fascinated by advancements in dentistry and keeps up-to-date with the latest technologies, techniques and equipment. She is a standing member of the Canadian Dental Association and Ontario Dental Association. Locally, she is a member of the Ottawa women's dental study club.

When Dr. Bayne is not practicing her passion for cosmetic dentistry, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Major Peter Bayne, daughters, Cate and Amanda, and dog Charlie. Her philanthropic efforts support scientific research, particularly finding a cure for breast cancer. She loves to travel and once took a trip, literally around the world. An aspiring athlete, Dr. Bayne hopes to complete a triathlon, soon!

Dr. Kumiko Mackasey - DMD

Dr. Mackasey was born and raised in Toronto. She attended McGill University where she earned a BSc in Anatomy and Cell Biology. Dr. Mackasey then completed an MSc in Cellular and Molecular Medicine from University of Ottawa and is a graduate of Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

In her spare time, Kumiko loves to watch movies, read, cycle, travel and try new restaurants. She enjoys spending time with her fiancé and friends in Ottawa and visits her hometown as much as possible to see her parents and sister.

Dr. Mackasey is very excited to join the Preston Dental Centre team. She is committed to offering excellent care in a friendly and calm environment.  New patients are always welcome for a comprehensive exam.

Dr. Charles Alleyn - Periodontist

Dr. Alleyn graduated from McGill University in 1978 with a B.Sc. and again in 1983 with his DDS. Dr. Alleyn received his Diploma in Periodontics from the U.S. Army Dental, Fort Gordon, Georgia, in 1990. Dr. Alleyn became a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology in 1993; and a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 1993. He has been an Examiner in periodontics with the Royal College of Canada since 1996. He also served as Councilor from 2004 - 2006, and has been Chief Examiner from 2006 - the present. Dr. Alleyn was a part-time staff member from 1990 - 1996 at McGill University and a lecturer from 1996 - 2004. He served as the Periodontic Representative of the Canadian Academy of Periodontology on the Committee of Special Affairs of the Canadian Dental Association. Dr. Alleyn served in the Canadian Forces Dental Service from 1979 - 1997. He is a member of many associations including the CDA, ODA and ODS.

Jennifer MacDonald – RDH

Prior to starting her career in Dental Hygiene, Jennifer worked as a level I and II Dental Assistant for 10 years in the field of Periodontics. In 2004, Jennifer graduated with a diploma in Dental Hygiene from The Canadian Institute of Dental Hygiene in Hamilton. Upon her return to Ottawa, Jennifer has been practicing full time as a Registered Dental Hygienist.

Jennifer is a member in good standing of the Ontario and Canadian Dental Hygienists Associations and the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario. Jennifer regularly attends courses to further her education and increase her level of client care.

Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband and two young daughters and staying active in her community.

Charlene Van Hofwegan – RDH

In 1987, Charlene graduated with a diploma in Dental Hygiene from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and, at that time, won an award from Johnson & Johnson for proficiency in Community Dentistry Courses. After a short period working as a Dental Hygienist in Saint John, New Brunswick, Charlene moved to Ottawa where she has been working as a Dental Hygienist and actively serving the Ottawa dental hygiene community for over 20 years.

Charlene practices as a Registered Dental Hygienist authorized to self-initiate treatment. As well, she works part time at Algonquin College as a Clinical Instructor where she provides support and training to dental hygiene students. Charlene also volunteers at the Dental Clinic of The Ottawa Mission and previously volunteered for the Ottawa Dental Hygienists' Society, where she won the Oral-B Health Promotion Award on their behalf. Charlene is a member of the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association and participates regularly in continuing education activities.

Charlene is dedicated to delivering a superior level of service to her clients. She enjoys promoting oral health and, in this way provides a level of care to clients which she would deliver to her loved ones or wish for herself. She will work together with you to establish a plan that will include disease prevention, therapeutic interventions and appropriate referrals. Charlene strives to support and care respectfully for each individual's needs as well as enable them to achieve and maintain maximum oral health, which is so closely linked with overall health and well-being. As well as enjoying her professional life serving clients, Charlene loves traveling with her husband, cycling, X-country skiing and giving back to her community.

Charlene is excited and honored to be a member of the team at Preston Dental Centre.

Sara Jacobson – RDH

Sara is from South Porcupine near Timmins where she became passionate about dentistry as a teen when, as summer student, she worked in her father’s dental office.

Sara trained as a Dental Assistant at George Brown College in Toronto in the early 90’s but suspended her career to start a family.

Sara later enrolled in Algonquin College and was part of the first class to graduate in the 3 year Advanced Diploma program Dental Hygiene completing the program with honors in 2014.

Sara is a member of the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association and College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario and continues to advance her skills and knowledge via regular continuing education programs.

Sara is involved in the Kanata Theatre with her son as well as being a trainer for her daughter’s hockey team, the Lady Sens.  Her summers are filled with camping and canoe trips with her husband and kids.

Sarah Daniel – RDH

Sarah is originally from northwest Ontario, she attended Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology in Welland, Ontario and graduated in the fall of 2001. After graduation she moved to the Ottawa area to be closer to family and started practicing dental hygiene in the spring of 2002.

Sarah is a member in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario and is an active member of the Ontario Dental Hygiene Association and the Ottawa Dental Hygienists Society. She also is committed to lifelong learning through continuing education courses and self-study. She is also dedicated to providing individualized client care and promotion of oral health.

In her spare time Sarah enjoys playing recreational sports and spending time with her sister and two nephews.

Laurie Lachance – RDH

Laurie is originally from Ottawa, she attended George Brown College inToronto, and then happily returned to her home town to practice DentalHygiene and raise her family.

For the past eighteen years Laurie has enjoyed educating patients and helping her patients in the maintenance of their oral health and dental hygiene.

Laurie enjoys running, and spending time with her two children.

Aimee Jodoin – RDH

Aimee is a native of Ottawa and she loves living in her home town close to family and friends. A graduate of Algonquin College in 2003 she made her start in the dental industry as a level II Dental Assistant working in several practices in Ottawa before returning to Algonquin for Dental Hygiene in 2006.

Aimee is a member of the Canadian, Ontario and Ottawa Dental Hygiene Associations.

Aimee has worked in a variety of dental offices and has considerable experience in pediatric hygiene. Aimee looks forward to providing quality care to all the patients who have entrusted PDC with their dental needs.

Away from Preston Dental Centre, Aimee enjoys spending time with her husband and their two young daughters.
